Background

This Straight Pool league started in July 2018.   The competition is individual instead of team, and the format does not require that all the matches be played the same night or even at the same location.  It is continuous in the sense that it runs from mid-January to mid-November.

People may join or drop as they see fit (with the requirement that once dropped a player must sit out at least one round — when the player is ready to add back in they need to let the League Director {LD} know several days before the new round starts).  The rounds are usually around two-weeks apart (i.e. 12 to 13 days long).

The format used for the league is based on one started by the  Billy Aardd's Club  (billiards club) at New Mexico Tech in the summer of 1983.

Players have a choice of match lengths.  (This could be done to reduce how long it takes to play a match.  It could also be done to get a reasonably long match when the spot is small.)  When both players agree they can play to: 40, 50, 75, 100, 125, or 150 points, otherwise the match is to 100-points.  (Match Times reviews the time taken to play past matches of 70 or 75 points.)

The current League Director {LD} is Ray.
(8/5)

If you are interested in playing you can contact Ray at the number above.  Please leave a voice-mail message if you want a call back (helps avoid calling back a number that wanted to do a survey or sell something!).

The current round (#134) runs from Sunday, June 15st through Saturday, July 3rd.  The next round (135) will start Monday, July 6 th.  Contact the LD by Thuesday, June 30th if you want to get in for round #135.(If you want to shoot a match to establish your initial rating contact the LD several days earlier.)

You can join at any time, though you wouldn't be scheduled for a match until the next round starts.

For an understanding of how the league operates see League Operation and Guidelines.  Player movement on the Ladder explains how player pairings operate from round to round.

Scoring for the match tracks every stroke.  This is needed in order to track various statistics.

We now have two ways to report the play of the match.  When not using a score sheet be sure to use the MOSENS 14.1 Scorer app since it provides a record of the play (which is used to generate league stats).  Could be that other apps may not provide a record of the play (but, for instance, just the score) and the match would be lost if there is no record of the play.

  1. The Official score sheet keeps track of the match on a rack-by-rack basis.  (Using pen is preferred to using pencil.)  It provides a nice physical record.
  2. The free app from Mosens LLC called 14.1 Scorer (for Android and IOS) is also okay.  It can email it's match record (play & score).  When using the app be sure to send YOURSELF a copy of the match (as a fail-safe backup) as well as emailing one to the LD.

Unfortunately the play record from this app does not track: Scratches, Safety-Fouls, and Safety-Scratches.  Those are all listed simply as Fouls.   This leaves some holes in the Stats Report for the match.

The inning-by-inning notation will be converted to rack-by-rack for the league web-site.

The League Director uses the match results for generating the next round.  Please follow the directions for submitting a score sheet to be sure it gets to the LD.

Official score sheets for the current round can be found at the front counter (where the balls are checked out) at Slate Street  (their facebook link).  If there are no sheets one can be printed from this web site, or you can keep track of things on a regular sheet of paper (just be sure to include all the required fields).  If there aren't any score sheets left be sure to let the LD know.
